Is Love, Love?

We cry ourselves to sleep at night and call the relationship love. We ignore God's perfect design and claim that love is love.

But God says that He is love

"Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love." 1 John 4:8

We take this verse - and the ones before it and after it - and shape it into our own interpretation. But what is God really saying when He tells us He is love?

After the fall, brokenness, sin, sadness, and loneliness entered the world. Because of that, all of mankind carriers an ache in their heart for perfect peace and love.

And because this world is upside down, we often try to fill that ache with money, relationships, friendships, alcohol, drugs - you name it. Some of these things, like relationships or money, aren't inherently bad. But anything that takes God's place in your life becomes a false god - and it will always let you down.

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

The Cross is love.

So when God tells us that He is love, He is also telling us that nothing apart from Him will ever fully satisfy us.

His design - His perfect, loving design - is worth fighting for. It’s worth sacrificing for.
It produces life.
It produces hope.
It produces love.

Perfect love.

Why try anything else?
