Isolation Is the Lie

For the past few weeks, I've felt a heaviness when I was around my closest friends. There was a voice in my mind trying to convince me that they didn't want to hear what I had to say - that I was talking too much and needed to stop confiding in them as much as I do.

Even as I write this, I realize how silly that last part sounds. But that's how deceiving Satan is - he tries to convince us that our struggles aren't worth sharing.

When you read the Bible, you see how people are constantly confiding in the Lord. Of course Satan doesn't want us to confide in those around us. The more we shut down and keep to ourselves, the more distant we can become from the Lord as well.

God designed us not only to bring our burdens to Him, but also to share them with others.

"Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2

In Scripture, believers are referred to as the body of Christ. This is powerful because when you think of how our physical bodies work, each part serves a very important and unique purpose. Our hands allow us to hold things, our feet help us balance and walk, and our legs give us strength. Every part works together to make the body whole.

The same is true for the body of Christ. Each believer has a role, and when we are united, we are stronger. We are sharpened by one another, not meant to walk through life alone.

"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." Proverbs 27:17

When you confide in those who are rooted in God's Word, you are sharpened by their wisdom. If they are followers of Jesus, they have the Holy Spirit within them, and He can speak through them.

If you never open up, you miss the opportunity to grow stronger in your faith.

Friends, if you have not already, I encourage you to truly step into the body of Christ. If you call yourself a believer but are not actively connected to a community of other believers, there may be something missing in your walk.

Scripture is clear about the importance of being surrounded by others who will build you up in faith.

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." Hebrews 10: 24-25
