In a world full of voices claiming truth, this post explores the lies we’ve come to believe - and the life-giving truth found in God’s Word.
I was contemplating what to write about this week, and after asking God, I woke up the other morning with the idea of “lies we believe." More specifically, lies the world tries to convince us are true. I am so thankful the Lord gave me this idea because I believe this is the biggest crisis our world is facing – believing anything other than what His word tells us.
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.” 1 John 4:1
Some of the lies we can believe are:
- “We can believe in God but still live the life we want.”
- “His Word does not apply to today’s world.”
- “I can take what I want from the bible and leave what I don’t like.”
Here is the truth: “I, I am the Lord, and besides me there is no savior.” Isaiah 43:11
If there is anything I have learned after learning more about the Bible, it’s that it is indeed alive and active (Hebrews 4:12). It is mind-blowing how much our world has changed - technological advancements, social development, careers, and architecture - yet absolutely nothing has changed at the same time. At the core, it is all the same. The same temptations, the same lies, the same deceitfulness that was dealt with in the bible is the same we deal with today. Nothing has changed and nothing will change.
Once we realize our stance under Jesus, everything starts to make sense. We truly can do nothing apart from Him – no matter how "advanced" our world gets. Where does it leave us? More money? More status? Look around - are we happy? There’s a void our world has that no advancement can fill. We weren’t designed to have the world fill us up, and therefore, it never will.
“Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made." Isaiah 43:7
We are designed to need a God - to need a Savior. If we don’t lean on that, we will always be searching for other things to fill the emptiness we feel at the end of the night.
There is such good news – He is for everyone. No one is exempt from His grace or from His saving. It is so simple – come to Him! Accept Him as your Lord and Savior and ask Him to reveal who He truly is so that you can start walking in the path He has designed for you.
We can keep searching in every other area except for Him, but eventually those things will let you down – they will collapse. Truth is truth, and we can’t escape it; we can accept it or deny it. But that’s our choice. His love for you does not fade. His love has been showcased through the death and resurrection of Jesus – giving us the choice to believe and follow Him, or not.
I can tell you from personal experience – as someone who has lived life with other "mountains" sitting at the throne instead of God - He is the only one who fulfills the aching in your heart.
He loves you in a way the world never will.
"See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him." 1 John 3:1
